Reading

Your child will bring home a reading book every night. These books will contain sounds which your child has been learning in school and will allow your child to confidently practise decoding the words independently. 

Reading is one of the most important  skills that your child will learn in Reception.  Please can you ensure sure that you read with your child as frequently as possible at home and at least three times a week. Your chid's reading book will be changed each Friday as long as they have read their book at least three times at home and can read and understand the book. Could you please sign your child's reading record each time they read with you as this gives us an indication of reading frequency and allows us to quickly address any difficulties your child may be experiencing. On the first page of your child's reading diary is a list of common exception words. Please can you practise reading these words each time you read with your child and practise writing them where possible.
